In 1820 the first Bolivian coca leaf liqueur, was manufactured by the De Medici in Bologna, Italy and sold throughout Europe. Rudyard Kipling said the powerful elixir as being made "from the clippings and shavings of angels wings", the product was removed from the market with the banning of cocaine as rudimentary distilling did not remove cocaine.

Today bales of Bolivian Coca leaf are shipped under armed guard to Amsterdam where they are distilled and an exact maceration and herbal extraction  techniques guarantee the removal of the cocaine to standards acceptable to European and US authorities. An extremely distinctive peppery herbal base is then blended with other herbs like guarana & ginseng to balance the taste and augment the effect.

The origins of Bols Liqueurs date back to the days of Lucas Bols, the founder of Bols Royal Distilleries. Lucas Bols started distilling back in the late sixteenth century, in 1575. He began distilling spirits and liqueurs in a small distillery in what is now the centre of Amsterdam.

Lucas Bols experimented with new herbs, spices, and exotic fruits that were brought from around the world to Holland by Dutch merchants. After carefully selecting his ingredients, he distilled a variety of spirits with surprisingly subtle flavours. Lucas Bols used the following guiding principle: "Do not mutilate nature, guide her to perfection."

Today, Bols supplies 27 high-quality liqueurs to over 100 countries worldwide and is the only international brand to exclusively target the trade. also runs a successful interactive business-to-business website with a database of over 11,000 drink recipes supplied by bartenders across the globe.

Blog EntryASSORTED SPANISH BRANDY FOR SALESep 13, '07 12:21 AM
for everyone
The word Brandy comes from the Dutch word brandewijn, ("burnt wine"), which is how the straightforward Dutch traders who introduced it to Northern Europe from Southern France and Spain in the 16th century described wine that had been "burnt," or boiled, in order to distill it. The origins of Brandy can be traced back to the expanding Moslem Mediterranean states in the 7th and 8th centuries. Arab alchemists experimented with distilling grapes and other fruits in order to make medicinal spirits. Their knowledge and techniques soon spread beyond the borders of Islam, with grape Brandy production appearing in Spain and probably Ireland (via missionary monks) by the end of the 8th century. Brandy, in its broadest definition, is a spirit made from fruit juice or fruit pulp and skin. More specifically, it is broken down into three basic groupings.

Fundador means 'Founder' in Spanish. This is an apt name because it was the first brand to be marketed as a 'Brandy de Jerez' way back in 1874. Today it is sold in more than 30 countries and enjoyed by millions.

Wine has been made in the Jerez region of Spain for more than 3,000 years. The distillers' art arrived comparatively recently - with the Moors who reached Andalucia in the eighth century.

Fundador is Spain's largest export brandy, aged in the traditional solera system. Sherry-soaked barrels give the brandy its distinctive taste and warm colour.

Amarula was first marketed in September 1989.   It has the taste of slightly fruity caramel. It has become the second largest seller in the cream liqueur category after Bailey's Irish Cream, with particular success in Brazil. Recently, Amarula has attempted to break into the American market.
